My Testimony
By Doris Christmas

Doris Christmas

I was born in 1920 in Philadelphia. My sister Adele was born in 1921 and our mother died 3 days later.

My father was very young, so his mother took me to raise and our Aunt Annie took my sister. They couldn't do any better in raising us. Our Mother's family never bothered with us. My sister and I always went to church. Our grandfather went also but none of the others.

When I became a teenager, there was a young man in my church who always came with his mother. We had eyes for each other. His name was Harold Christmas. I didn't like his name but I fell in love with him. So we were married. It was war time and shortly after our marriage, he enlisted in the Navy. I was angry that he did that. But what could I say, he felt it was his duty. He was put on an ammunition ship. The ship exploded off in the Pacific. We were married from March 1944 to November 1944. Just a short time.

After that I still worked for a short time and then I got restless. The girls I was around and my sister decided to become missionaries. So I thought I would like that too. So we trained for that. I decided to go to Japan. I applied to the missions and was accepted. I spent ten years in Japan. I loved it.

I came back to San Diego and went to work again. I also went to a group of Christians who were starting a work with alcoholics and troubled people. I did a lot of street work, such as street meetings and visiting missions on Saturday nights. So they asked me to quit my job and join them. They are located in Lakeside, CA. So I did again.

I wrote to 5 men who were in prison for many years. I still have contact with one of them in jail. The others are out of jail now.

Then I felt I was getting older and I had my money coming in each month from my husband's benefits, so I left them.

I came down to Pacific Beach because my sister had a place right on the next street. So I found a place nearby. Still live there. I found Pacific Beach Bible Church and joined them. I have been happily with them ever since.

So that is my story. Now I am just waiting for the Lord to take me home.
